GTA 6 vs San Andreas
San Andreas (2004) was the last GTA built around an entire state with multiple cities. GTA 6 is the first numbered game since then that Rockstar has openly framed as a state — Leonida — rather than one metro. That is the real comparison, not unofficial acreage charts.

A state is the shared idea
San Andreas is a fictional California/Nevada/Washington blend: Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, and the land between them. GTA 6’s State of Leonida is a fictional Florida. Both are “more than one city,” but only San Andreas has three officially named major cities in the shipped game. For GTA 6, Vice City is the named city; other settlements in trailers are not a published city list.
CJ versus Lucia and Jason
San Andreas is CJ’s story: returning to Los Santos, gangs, and a state-spanning conspiracy. GTA 6’s confirmed leads are Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Rockstar has shown them as a couple running crime in Leonida. Skill trees, gym stats, and gang-war systems from San Andreas have not been confirmed for GTA 6.
Do not trust viral map overlays
Side-by-side map images that put Leonida next to San Andreas at a labeled square mileage are fan reconstructions. Rockstar has not released an official GTA 6 map scale. This site will not invent one for rankings. When an official map or scale ships, this page should be updated.
Hardware gap
San Andreas launched on PlayStation 2 in 2004. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. The comparison is useful for setting and structure, not for “which looks better” — that is a 22-year hardware gap, not a mystery.

Does GTA 6 have three cities like San Andreas?
Only Vice City is confirmed by name as a major city in GTA 6. Trailers show other towns and rural areas in Leonida. A three-city list equal to Los Santos / San Fierro / Las Venturas has not been published.
Is Leonida bigger than San Andreas?
Unknown. Rockstar has not published official sizes. Treat any number you see on social media as unofficial unless it comes from Rockstar.
