Thirteen years between numbered games
GTA 5 defined a generation: it launched on PS3 and Xbox 360, then moved to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and later PS5 and Xbox Series. GTA 6 does not have that long tail yet. On November 19, 2026 it is a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S game only. Rockstar has not announced a PC date. If you are comparing “what can I play it on day one,” GTA 6 is narrower than GTA 5 is today — and closer to how GTA 5 itself launched.
Leonida versus Los Santos
GTA 5 is set in a fictionalized Southern California: Los Santos plus the countryside of Blaine County. GTA 6 is set in the State of Leonida, with Vice City as the headline city. That is a return to the Florida-inspired setting of Vice City (2002), not a sequel map of San Andreas. Rockstar has not published official square-mileage for either game, so map-size claims online are estimates — this site does not treat them as confirmed.
Two leads instead of three
GTA 5’s single-player campaign switches between Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. GTA 6’s confirmed leads are Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Dual protagonists are not new to the series, but a woman as a lead in a numbered GTA is. Story structure, switching rules, and whether a third playable character appears later have not been confirmed.
Price and editions
GTA 5 launched at $59.99. GTA 6’s Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. That is a higher day-one price than GTA 5, in line with other 2025–2026 AAA releases. Ultimate extras can vary by store listing — check the official product page before you pre-order.

Is GTA 6 bigger than GTA 5?
Rockstar has not published official map sizes for GTA 6 or GTA 5. Trailers show Vice City plus rural and swamp areas of Leonida, but square-mileage comparisons circulating online are unofficial.
Will GTA 6 have GTA Online?
Rockstar has not published a full GTA 6 Online feature list. GTA 5’s online mode launched in 2013 and became the long-term service. Treat any GTA 6 Online detail that is not in an official post as unconfirmed.
Can I play GTA 6 on a PS4 or Xbox One?
No. GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only at launch. GTA 5 still plays on last-gen and PC.
